Active Vision: Adapting How to Look
نویسندگان
چکیده
A new study has found that artificial occlusion of central vision leads to rapid emergence, and long-term maintenance of a new preferred retinal locus of fixation. These findings have important implications for the understanding of visual and oculomotor plasticity as well as for the development of rehabilitation techniques.

Embedded Early Vision Systems: Implementation Proposal and Hardware Architecture
We present our approach towards a smart sensor, with embedded processing resources to perform early vision tasks. Our work is based on the active vision paradigm, adapting the perceptual aspects of biological vision to artificial systems. The FPGA/DSP-based hardware platform developed as prototype of a smart camera is presented, and a design methodology to reduce implementation time and complex...
متن کاملThe Global Health Policies of the EU and its Member States: A Common Vision?
Background This article assesses the global health policies of the European Union (EU) and those of its individual member states. So far EU and public health scholars have paid little heed to this, despite the large budgets involved in this area. While the European Commission has attempted to define the ‘EU role in Global Health’ in 2010, member states are active in the domain of global health ...
متن کاملLook-Ahead Before You Leap: End-to-End Active Recognition by Forecasting the Effect of Motion
Visual recognition systems mounted on autonomous moving agents face the challenge of unconstrained data, but simultaneously have the opportunity to improve their performance by moving to acquire new views of test data. In this work, we first show how a recurrent neural network-based system may be trained to perform end-to-end learning of motion policies suited for the “active recognition” setti...
متن کاملColor learning and illumination invariance on mobile robots: A survey
Recent developments in sensor technology have made it feasible to use mobile robots in several fields, but robots still lack the ability to accurately sense the environment. A major challenge to the widespread deployment of mobile robots is the ability to function autonomously, learning useful models of environmental features, recognizing environmental changes, and adapting the learned models i...
متن کاملAdapting images to observers
Adaptation exerts a continuous influence on visual coding, altering both sensitivity and appearance whenever there is a change in the patterns of stimulation the observer is exposed to. These adaptive changes are thought to improve visual performance by optimizing both discrimination and recognition, but may take substantial time to fully adjust the observer to a new stimulus context. Here we e...
